What is the best things I could do to prepare for my senior year?

I will be starting my final two semesters in the fall. During this summer I am taking a nursing class that is not clinical just classroom and micobio. A lot of other students are doing a nursing intern position but I was not able to get in one. One reason is the hospital that I signed up for told me that they are cutting back for money reasons so they got rid of the nursing inter program and at that point all the hospitals were filled, also I have children and it was going to be real hard for me to do this.
With everyone's nursing experience what do you think could help me prepare for my senior year?

Did you try another hospital? You're on the right track about doing an internship. Looking back, it was SO helpful in that I was able to do things that weren't "allowed" during clinical because it was one-on-one with a nurse for 8-12 hours. I became extremely comfortable with touching patients, changing dressings, foleys, etc. It allowed me jump to the "real stuff" when I got my first RN job because I was already proficient with the "small stuff". I had a child at the time also. I worked at night while my husband was home. It was AWESOME because it was quiet and I had a lot of time to study after everything was done and before patients woke up in the AM. Keep trying to get an internship SOMEWHERE. Try doing weekend nights if possible. Another great plus was that the nurses and nurse manager knew me well and hired me after I passed my boards! It was well worth it and I would do it again.

I did try every hospital in the area but they have started the summer programs. Too late for me. But I do an internship or what they call nurse shadowing my last six week (I think 180 hours) of my senior year. You acutally do everything and learn a ton of stuff. I just thought that I should do something before my senior year to be more prepared for it.

Thanks, should I just go through my drug book and read about certain drugs?? Should I go over the ones that I have done in my last 2 semesters? Do you think I should buy some nclex books also? Sorry so many questions.
