What is the best shoes for the OR?

I am moving from floor nursing to a circulating nurse and would like to know what you think is the best shoes to wear.

Thanks in advance!

Alegria's hands DOWN. I think Danskos and Crocs are dangerous in my opinion. When I had Crocs, I tripped on the them all the time and fluid would get into the holes on the top of the shoes. Danskos to me were heavy and clunky, and if you accidently roll your ankles you can get injured.

Alegrias have a rocker bottom to them so they rock with you when you are walking around, and they come in a whole bunch of colors and styles. The bottoms have the memory foamish material and they are easy to clean. Over half of the staff I work with wear Alegrias.

I've never heard of fitflops. Are these really good for your feet? I wear Dansko myself.

I like to keep it simple, basic New Balance shoes. My sister is also an OR nurse and she told me she regretted spending so much on Dansko's, saying they are better for standing in place than circulating, and where I work (being an Army nurse) we only circulate.

I've used both Dansko's clogs and New Balance running shoes. When scrubbing, the dansko's are superior. When Circulating the NB running shoes. You may also want to look into custom fit orthotics. Mine can fit in both pairs of shoes, and got a great discount by going thru one of our Orthopaedic surgeon offices.
