WGU BSN degree good in Canada?

Hi everyone!

I'm very seriously considering WGU for the RN-BSN program. I will be taking the NCLEX within the next couple of months and after that plan on leaving for Canada for a while. I'm aware the NCLEX is the same now in the US as it is in Canada so I will not have to retest.

I'm wondering if anyone has or know anyone else who has had no problem registering as an RN in Canada after graduating from WGU. I'm not sure how strict Canada is (Alberta specifically) when evaluating education requirements and comparing them to their standards. I hope WGU meets their standards because this school seems like the right choice for me in every other way!

Also, has anyone by chance done WGU's RN-BSN online from Canada?

I'm fairly certain it is not available outside the US. I have a friend who was interested, and she ended up in the Health IT degree program. Check with an enrollment counselor - they'll know.

Thanks for responding :geek: I spoke to an enrollment counselor the other day and she said they've had students do the program from Canada so I was wondering if anyone had any problems/advice firsthand. Maybe the program changed after your friend considered?

Entirely possible- it's been 5+ years.

I am doing the BSN-MSN program with WGU. I live in Canada and cross into the U.S. For work q day. My original enrollment counsellor said it was no problem, just needed my Canadian BScN evaluated by a service. One day, I got a concerning call saying Canadians were OK in all programs but nursing. I had to talk to a director who relented, based upon the fact I work in the US. For MSN, there are projects in which you learn more about government resources and programs, like meaningful use, CDC, etc. I can see their perspective, if you practice outside the U.S. it would not be terribly relevant. I don't know if BSN has the same requirement

Nursemaple 2, Will your MSN be transferable to Canada? I am considering switching from the RN-BSN track to the RN-MSN track with WGU. We are planning to move back to Canada in another year or two to be closer to my husbands family. I am worried that the MSN from the US will not be accepted there.

Nightflower- How is everything going? Did you ever hear from anyone who has been through WGU and transferred to Canada?

I am Canadian. I need to know if there is any one currently doing the BSN from Canada? or if the person who posted the original question is satisfied and or have any thing to share from their experience

How are you finding your studies so far? where did you do your BSN? canada or usa?

Unfortunately, I still haven't heard from anyone who has received a degree from WGU and works in Canada :( I still don't know if Canada has accepted anyone with their degree from WGU. I think I'm still going to get my BSN from WGU because the school seems to be the best option.

Actually I still haven't even started my BSN! Life has taken some turns but I will be starting soon. Hopefully Alberta accepts my degree from WGU.

As far as your situation, I think I've heard of Canadians being enrolled at WGU successfully.
