WGU ADN - BSN, Graduate school choices?

Published

I am interested in applying to UCSF for one of their many masters level programs. Anyone go to Western Governors University and how does that work with GPA and masters level programs at "proper" universities? Did you feel at a disadvantage for having an online BSN, or did you totally rock the application anyway? I am interested in CNM applicants, NP, or Clinical Nurse Specialist, not necessarily just UCSF, but it seems like a good benchmark. I have not done my BSN yet, and am leaning towards WGU, but need to hear some successes first. WGU is winning out for a number of reasons- starting anytime being a significant one, but if I can't get into the program I want after that then it's clearly the wrong direction.

I looked into their BSN program as well, but you may want to do some additional research. They don't have a standard grading system with A, B, C, etc. It's either pass/no pass, credit/no credit - something like that. They cannot verify if other schools for higher education will accept the BSN degree. You will have to contact the university you intend on applying to for your Master's degree, if they will accept the BSN from WGU. Although, they are accredited, their program is slightly different from the standard BSN programs. I think it is good if you want to stop at BSN, but if you want to pursue additional certification or higher education, then you might have a problem.

You should contact UCSF directly and speak to a Nursing admissions counselor. Good Luck!

I am currently finishing my BSN through WGU, and intend to apply to Frontier for CNM/FNP. Frontier requires a 3.0 GPA and a prereq statistics course. I checked with WGU, and they say that all passed courses are given a 3.0, or "B". Also, Frontier says they will accept WGU's Quantitative Literacy math course for the stats requirement. :yeah:

wgu is great but drawback is 3.0 avg

If I went to college from 1997-1999 and have an associates in science, will all my prereqs be done for the RN to BSN program? Even my science classes? What about the 5 year cutoff?

First Congrats on everyones drive and hard work!!! I am in the process of enrolling and plan to post my question on several threads so I apologize if you are reading this for the fourth time. I have applied, taken my assessment, finished my intake interview, sent in my transcripts and I am now waiting on the "10 day rule" for my final verdict of what classes I will still need. I am going to post what classes I have had and if anyone has had the same educational experience would you let me know what gen eds you needed. I realize I could just "wait on my review" but I just can't stand it. I know this is prob annoying to some but I am just so excited I can't help but be annoying :) Thanks in advance.
