Has anyone heard of Western Governor's University?

Nursing Students Western Governors

Published

I received a flyer from a close friend of mine regarding Western Governor's University. I've never heard of this program before but am interested in their BSN program. But how legitimate is this program? Anyone ever heard of it or attended any of the nursing programs there? I consider myself an excellent self directed learner and since a majority of this program is online (other than the clinicals) I feel this program would be ideal for me. THanks!

It's not an approved program for the California board of nursing. Not sure if any other states recognize them.

What do you mean, not recognized?

do you mean you are not able to sit for the NCLEX in California?

Seems to me from their website you can. I am waiting on info from them.

Maybe its more like Maric in san diego.

At Maric you get your RN take the NCLEX but your classes will not transfer to a BSN or MSN program, though many people do not care about that, they just need the RN.

At any rate, i have my RN, i just want to know if i can use the BSN they give to join the military, or work at the VA, or use their BSN to then get into a MSN program.

This "university" is little more than a diploma mill. Your "credits" earned here are not transferrable to a real school

Im actually a RN now.

So sitting for the board is not really a issue for me.

Im more interested if their BSN will allow entry in military, they say it can.

Im more interested in their BSN allows me to work in the VA, they say it can.

Im also interested if their BSN will transfer at all to a MSN program, which they admit varies.

So i appreciate the answer, but im looking for info from someone who went to the school and their experience during and after.

If i recall, in the beginning Univ. of Phoenix, National University and Maric college got alot of bad reports from people who did not go there.

They turned out OK.

Heck in the early days people laughed at people who went thru CSU Dominguez Hills because it was not a typical school, though it was still a CSU university.

I'll teach you nursing and give you a BSN (with an official seal of a university that I just invented) if you pay me $10,000. You won't have to go to a classroom or take any scantron tests or do any practicals. You won't have to do clinicals or fight for parking at a university. It will be totally recognized by everyone, I swear.

Absolutely not. This "university" is little more than a diploma mill. Your "credits" earned here are not transferrable to a real school and are not recognized by the California board of nursing as an approved program. If you want to be a nurse, you have to go to a real school.

I have no doubt that their website claims that they are an approved program, but so what? Anyone can claim anything. It's a scam.

Can you show me where i can find out if a school is approved, and what exactly that means.

Can anyone show me where Maric college, National U and U of Phoenix is a approved school, and i know many RNs from Maric and these other 2 schools.

This would help me alot, since i cant seem to find where on the state board site what exactly not approved means and which schools are or are not.

thanks.

Pay special attention to the warning about "WARNING - Unaccredited Nursing Programs Operating within California"

actually i just looked on the state board of approved schools for RN, and Western Governors is on it.

So again, what exactly do you mean.?

funny though, Maric is not on there, and i know a million nurses who went to Maric, and sat for the board, approved of or not, and are great nurses making great pay.

when your "school" shows up on the state board as an approved school, as Western Governors does, perhaps we can talk about that.

But again, did you actually go to this school?

Did you actually get fried?

Do you actually know anyone who did?

Or are you just using the typical too good to be true line?

I appreciate you looking out, but do you have any actual proof?

Your not approved school information was wrong, as they are approved by the state.

maybe they can claim it all they want, but if thats the case, how is it they are on the state boards site for approved schools?

This is a general warning page, no where does it say anything about the school in question.

When in fact, this school is on the approved page of the state.

so again, where exactly are you finding your information?

Again, im a RN now, i agree you need actual school for bed side care, but im asking about RN to BSN.

Besides, Western does their clinical with Cedar Sinai, a major hospital, so they do have clinicals, so im still lost with where you are finding your information.

Do you know this school is formed by 19 US state governors, not just joe down the street wanting to make a buck.

yes, we can make jokes about politicians and they do things for a buck, but again 19 US Governors formed this school as a non profit.

That seems pretty genuine to me.

Kind of hard to be a diploma mill when you are a non profit.
