West Coast University Start Date Question

U.S.A. California

Published

I know this school as been brought up a million times in this forum, but I am in a bit of a sticky situation:

I am signed up to start the April term which is coming up in a bout a week.. but my grades havnt came in from my online classes on my online classes that i am taking, and it looks like i wont be able to get them my transcripts (going to be transferring about 2 more classes) by this friday..

now question: should I postpone my start date another term? can I? i already postponed it once already.. one good thing about postponing is that ill be able to squeeze one more class online and get that on my transcript. I dont want to jepordize my admissions to this school because I cant be accepted anywhere else due to my subpar pre-req grades

If i start this term ill be paying an extra 20k so I dont know what to do..

As a recent graduate of WCU-LA (just finished today 3/30) and after reviewing my loan debt....please take my advise and POSTPONE!!! You will be saving yourself ALOT of money. Trust me! Yes, you can postpone. It will be worth the wait. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE LISTEN TO ME!

And also, good luck by the way! WCU-LA is a rigorous program. After reflecting on my experience; there were approx 100 students that I started with and about 45 of us finished together. Most people don't make it. But you can with dedication. I know it sounds corny but the University has such high standards because the program is relatively new and the school has to "prove itself" to the nursing community. While I was in the program, there were a few times when I thought I wasn't going to make it but "fight a good fight." You don't want to be a statistic. And one last thing, find a good group of hard working friends because you can not get through this alone and plus, never forget that GRADES DO MATTER! The previous cohort batch were accepted into new grad programs at UCLA, Cedar-Sinai, White Memorial, Hollywood Presbyterian, Children Hospital LA just to name a few and most of those programs required a minimum 3.0 GPA (however aim for 3.5 or higher to be competitive). WCU-LA really prepares you!

First of all CONGRATS!!! on finishing!!! :)

Im actually going to be going to the OC campus, but thanks so much for the advice! ill call up my advisory on Monday and tell her i am going to postpone it.. she gave me attitude last time i did, but hey its my money and i want to spend it how i want to.

Thanks so much for the tips! Ive read from numerous reviews that it is a very very tough program, but I am ready for quite the challenge, considering I finished a bunch of online college classes with A's and B's on my own! I am willing to study hard and get it done!

Agian thanks soo much! and CONGRATS!

Did you end up starting at WCU? What pre-reqs did you end up taking at CC's that were able to transfer in? How much money did that knock off on your tuition? Sorry for all the questions, I know it's alot of money to spend and like you, it's nice to talk to someone ahead of you that's gone through it.

Thanks.

Yeah I did, I actually postponed my start date to the June term instead of the April term (which helped me complete about 2 more classes).

I was able to transfer in: Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, written communication 1 and 2, Biochem, college math, oral communication and Intro to Psych

I actually took Written Communication 2, College Math and Intro to Sociology (which they don't need anymore), Online through Brigham young university They have an Online Independent study program in which you can finish as fast or as long as you want. I finished each course in about 2 months. Its $500 a class plus books. The great thing about that program is though, the transcripts are the same exact ones as the ones on campus (in fact it dosnt say anywhere on them that you took it online, it looks like you took the class on campus)

Transferring all my classes knocked about 30k from the tuition, so it ended up costing me a bit over 100k, which is still a lot of money but i still saved a good chunk of change.

My reccomendation try to take as many pre-reqs as possible from other places and then transfer them all in. If you can transfer just about all of them in then more power to you!

let me know if you have any more questions
