Well, it looks like we'll be moving back "home"

Currently DH and I are in the Raleigh/Durham area, and we've decided (due to his job situation) that a move back to my hometown is in order. This is Shelby (which is between Charlotte and Asheville).

So I'm thinking of applying to Gaston Memorial. Regardless of the facility, I definitely want to stay in L&D. Do any of you have any experience w/the L&D units in the Charlotte to Shelby area? Or just the hospitals in general? I haven't lived there in about 10 years, and wasn't in nursing when I left, so I feel a little "out of the loop" as far as the hospitals go.

And I can't believe we're going to be moving back there! Exciting and scary at the same time!

Best wishes with your move :balloons: I don't know anything about L& D units in the Charlotte area. Hopefully, another poster will come along who can offer you some valuable advice :)

My information is probably not current, as I left Charlotte in the '90's. But, when I first moved there, I had trouble finding a NICU position, and decided to interview for Gaston Memorial's OR internship program. I was impressed, and would have accepted the offer, but I found a NICU job in the meantime.

As far as L&D, there is no shortage of choices in the Charlotte area. Carolina's Medical Center was "the" place for high risk OB at that time. Presbyterian did the most deliveries in the area, and had a reputation as being somewhat "posh". Mercy Hospital South had the first LDRP unit in the area, and offered excellent quality of care in a small, home-like setting with an active midwife practice. I worked there and loved it! I believe that it is now part of the Carolina's Medical Center System. University Hospital also offered OB services, but I don't know much about them. Also, Presby has since opened a hospital in the Pineville-Matthews area.
