Weighing pts

Published

I know we all *love* getting pt’s weights at office visits. I get the annoyed huff, the eye roll, the “what does that have to do with anything”, all the usual. I’ve always, from day one in my nursing career, deducted 3 lbs for shoes and clothes, and that makes some pts feel better about the number they see. Well, yesterday our manager sent an email that we do not deduct ANYTHING from the weight, the number on the scale is the number we record. Anybody else have this policy?  We get guys with steel-toed construction boots who don’t want to take all that time to untie and retie shoes, ladies in the “fall attire” of knee-high boots, jeans, long sleeves, scarves, and vest, people who won’t empty their pockets, and we don’t take off anything?
