6 week med surge I course help!

Okay so I am a repeat at this course because my first semester I took fundies, second was pedi and maternity, then I was ill so I did not take nursing just my pharm course so then I went back to School last May for nursing (med surge I). This is a quick semester mid May to end of June. I failed last year with a 74 I need at least a 78. So my first test is on Tuesday, I feel comfy with the anxiety disorders, the somatoform disorders well this week we learned about substance abuse and I feel at a loss I cant imagine what might be asked. She did say.remember legal blood alcohol level is important , but theres so much about alcohol an then otger drugs about opiods, hallucingens, inhalants...last year substance abuse was not in our course so its new to me. Any suggestions. I make flash cards, record lecture, and read the text. Thank you for feedback. If you have negative thoughts please don't bother. Thanks :-)

I had substance abuse stuff as part of psych, but my main thing was to not just know it, but actually understand it. For example, we know what heroin can cause, but why does it cause it? Or, we know cocaine causes increased BP, but why? If this stuff is not in your book, look it up on the web. I often found the Internet to give me easier-to-understand answers than many books. I also am a big fan of flashcards.

I am in med surg II right now. My course is 8 weeks long. I find that when I write something down, it sticks in my head. I handwrite my own study guides then read them over a few times and I can usually remember the information. Med surg is so tough. I can't wait until it is over! Good luck!

I would learn what signs and symptoms the person will feel when intoxicated, what s/s they will have when going through withdrawal, and how to treat overdoses of all the drug groups. That's what my program focused on.
