I have a 3 yr old daughter who had a lot of ear infections until we had tubes put into her ears when she was 17 months. She had started to say words on schedule but then stopped and a lot of the people we took her to said it was because of her having fluid in her ears so much and she would catch up. Well, we have seen 1 ped, 3 speech ladies, had her hearing checked, and had her eyes checked. They all said that she would do it when she wanted and she was being stubborn. They didn't see anything wrong. We switched ped because the one we were going to left the practice. The new one recommended another speech person to go to. As soon as we walked in the room, the lady said that she could tell what was going on and she said that she was surprised that no one else had told us. She said my daughter has apraxia. She gave me some information on it and did a few tests with my daughter and said she would get us set up for therapy. She said my daughter understands and knows what she is suppose to for her age, the only problem she is having is her speech. I told her that my daughter liked her and that sometimes with the other people we went to she wouldn't try anything with them so they were not able to get a good sample of what was going on. I looked at the papers she gave me and my daughter has not had any problems with eating or anything like that and she has not had any motor skill problems either so I can understand why some may have overlooked this. I am sorry to be so long, here is my question: I want to look up some info and I want to look at the sites that are actually good. I have looked up things before and you know how some sites should not be looked at because it scares the parents to death with what it says when it is actually way off base. What websites would you recommend for me to look at so that I can help my daughter and learn more about this without trying to second guess everything to see if it is right? Thank you for reading this, I didn't mean for it to be so long. I am just excited that we actually have a name to look up and we can get started helping her.

I don't know of any specific websites to recommend, but would suggest that you ask your new pediatrician or new speech pathologist/therapist for suggestions.
They are the experts in this area and would know of reputable websites and other resources for you.
Best of luck to you and your daughter.

I'm just guessing but I suspect sahmof2 that you aren't a nurse. You really shouldn't rely on the Internet for your health care advice, especially if you don't have the background knowledge to be discriminating of what you're reading. As you say, there are websites that terrify regular people or promise them things that are not ever reasonable. Your best course is to continue to search for health care practitioners you trust who listen to you and then ask all your questions of them. Ask themt o find you written information about your daughter's condition and get them to explain the parts you don't understand. Your daughter's well-being is too precious to trust to an unknown entity.
