WCU and ECU CRNA Interview

Published

I recently interviewed for CRNA school at Eastern Carolina and Western Carolina University. I wanted to give an updated review of their interview process to ease some anxiety.

ECU

You will get a letter once you apply if you are granted an interview. The director gives a presentation prior to the interview. The director also gave a quick tour of the facility. There was a group of nine people interviewing for that day. We were told which order we were being interviewed. While waiting they have students there to answer questions. The panel was 15 people consisting primarily of CRNAs. The questions were primarily personal questions like (Why CRNA, How you going to pay, etc.). I was asked one clinical question that was pretty easy. They send you a letter whether you are accepted or not.

They are very personable and their program is well put together. They score you based on a point system. Each person on the board will score you and whoever gets the highest scores get in. They interview a lot of people for 12 spots. Not sure on the exact amount but i heard it was near the 80-100 mark. I would highly encourage visiting the facility prior to interviewing.

WCU

Once you are granted an interview you sign up for a time slot for one of the two days offered. They interview 30 people for 15 slots. They do not offer a presentation during the interview day. They have students to show you around the facility and answer questions prior to the interview. The interview board was four people consisting of the director, staff, and a student. It was about an even mix of personal and clinical questions. Just make you know your ICU unit like the back of your hand because anything is fair game. It really is not anything more than you should know. They let you know that evening if you get in. Otherwise, they send a rejection letter via email.

WCU was a different experience. They were less personable and were more matter-of-fact like. If you made even a small mistake the director could be condescending. Besides that, the program did look well put together and I think education-wise its a good school. Like ECU, I'd highly encourage visiting the campus prior to interviewing. I wish I would of done this prior to interviewing.

Hopefully this helps some people who plan on applying in the future.

Thank you so much for this!
