Specialties Wound

Wondering how many out there certified in "wound care" by WCC, as opposed to being certified as CWS or CWOCN. Just curious.

Exactly. Please see http://www.wcei.net/

Tell me what you think.

With a little investigation I've learned that the WCEI and the NAWCCB both belong to Nancy Morgan. Doesn't look good.

I specially don't like ANOTHER certifying avenue. Will possibly water down the other established methods for recognition. Chiefly, the WOCN and the AAWM.

Heck, I didn't like the announcement of the APWCA some time ago with their plans of offering a (3rd) pathway for certification.

This latest one just seems to be to much.

Just my $0.02

Wow, this has been an eye-opener! I thought there was only one cert agency, the WOCN. But these methods only allow for wounds, right, not the ostomy and continence cert.

wocn is the only pathway that i'm aware of for all three specialties in the us. but for wounds... apparently there are now 4!!!

hmm...

Rand,

I think you are confused. I know this is an old post, but, I am aware of both the NAWC and WCEI and Nancy Morgan is with WCEI, not NAWC. The NAWC is the organization I got my credentials from and I am very involved with our local chapter. WCEI is the education company that does the prep course for the NAWC. Hope that clarifies things for you.

I took the course last September. They said many CWOCN's take it because it covers more than they have had on wounds.

Most of the CWOCNs I know wish to maintain the higher standard of education requirements and the hours of experience before you are even close to sitting for a "National" anything. Any deficits on the focus of wounds that I may feel I have with my CWOCN will be satisfied with my CWS. There is a movement to discredit the "National Certification in wound care in a week or less"-type of program because it clouds the certification issue. This is what the doctors who aren't proponents of good wound care call the "Go to a weekend course and call yourself an expert" -wound care specialist. Very frustrating; though I am not against anyone learning more about wound care, I want to be set apart from the 4 day course that promises to change my life.
