Waynesburg university 2nd degree nursing

Nurses General Nursing

Hey I just got accepted into Waynesburg accelerated nursing for summer 2019 starting in may. Did anyone apply yet? Is anyone currently in the program?

For the accelerated program your first semester's will be mostly classroom based and in the simulation lab to master your fundamentals. Towards the end of first summer (which yes is mostly 8-5 with few exceptions to the rule), at the end of the second part of summer 1 you'll do full day's at a skilled nursing facility in the area to get you comfortable using the basic skills, pass meds under supervision, performing assessments, do concept maps, using the EMR a little, getting vitals, etc.

Once you get your fall semester things slow down a little bit it is academically challenging, you'll do a weekly clinical at an area hospital on a med surg floor. This is where you're really going to step up your assessment skills, development of a concept map, patient education, critical thinking and prioritizing care. This is where you notice that a lot of what you've learned up to this point starts to come together.

During your spring semester you will have med-surg part 2 along with Psych which is presently taught by Jodi Rawlings and Dr Sherry Parsons. My understanding is that they have updated segments of the course to stay up-to-date on psychiatric disorders facing Healthcare today. During this semester you will still have a weekly med-surg clinical at a nearby hospital, you will have a weekly psych clinical twice per month, and you still have lab as well.

I can't speak much further than that. I do know that the following summer is very intense and includes OB, Peds, and I believe another EBP course. I hear that Professor Weaver and dr. Machesky are both very good with the OB and Peds programs and clinicals.

I believe in your very last fall semester you take leadership and nursing in the community. I do not know a lot about either of those or the professors that teach them. Perhaps someone else can provide some information on those areas.

In summation I have no doubt if you can make it through the Waynesburg School of Nursing BSN program, especially the accelerated program, that you will have little difficulty progressing further in your nursing endeavors. Best of luck
