Wayne State University for NP

Published

Has anyone taken this program? Or does anyone know anything about it?

I heard that they are getting rid of their NP programs and have DNP's instead?

Specializes in ACNP-BC, Adult Critical Care, Cardiology.

Do you mean they are phasing out their master's degree NP programs and only offering them as DNP? That was the rumor back in 2009 when I lived in Michigan. Sounds like it has started to happen.

Wayne State's nursing programs are well respected in Michigan. They are the only university apart from University Michigan that offers a wide range of specialty tracks for NP. They arrange clinical rotations and have a large concentration of NP alumni in the Metro Detroit area making it very easy to network with practicing NP's. The college has produced deans and professors who now teach in other nursing schools in Michigan including University of Michigan as well as other states.

yeah that is what I mean. That really sucks! In order to get into a DNP I would need to complete a master's first

You don't need a master's the way Wayne State's DNP program is set up. They have 3 paths to a DNP: 1. BSN to DNP, 2. MSN (with APN certification) to DNP, 3. MSN (without APN certification) to DNP. You could enter via Path#1 which along with Path#3 will take the longest to complete among all three paths.
