Wayland Baptist University online bsn program

Published

I'm considering this program instead of the generic program so I can work straight through without a break and graduate a term earlier than the generic but I was looking for some insight about the online program. How is it? Is it MORE challenging than the generic route? Is the workload excessive because it's online or is it the same as a physical course? I'm looking for someone who isn't working in the medical field and someone with basically no experience to answer. I was told by WBU that the online program is for people with experience in the med field or who are paramedics, cnas, etc. So just wondering if there was anyone who did not have any med field experience, just knowledge, and how was it. Thanks

Specializes in ICU.

Although I don't meet the criteria you asked for (I work as a paramedic), I can tell you that I do not advise this program to anyone who has another option, ESPECIALLY if you aren't experienced in the medical field. It is a "here's the book, midterm in two weeks" school, that is TERRIBLY unorganized, EXPENSIVE ($35k, not including travel, books, subscriptions, scrubs, etc.) and difficult. Not only is it difficult to make decent grades (the teachers give virtually zero guidance on what to study for the test, they just want you to know it all, and give standardized tests), the teachers have been notoriously hard to contact for any problems. I could go on. If there's no other option, it's a way to get the piece of paper, sure. Like for me, I have a family and have to keep working, work 24 hr shifts so there's no way I can go to night school or anything. I don't know how many times I've had to fall back on previous medical knowledge to get through tests, same with the rest of my class. Of 20 students or so that we started with, there are 8 in my cohort now. Six chiropractors and me- one other works in home health. I can't wait to be done, and don't recommend this school at all.

I have a couple of question about the online program. For the secure proctor-can you set one up or do they have a certain proctor site you use. For the monthly clinical portion - how long are they 8 hrs, 12 hrs, 24 hrs or more? Also, what accreditation does the program have?

Did you get any answers on the program? I'm interested too

Like txparamurse said it is very expensive. Your clinicals are everywhere, they can be in Arlington one weekend and in Houston the next. If you really want online look into Arlington they have an online generic bsn. For a lot cheaper.

Really? Clinical are spread out like that???

I spoke with the nursing program rep and she said they are not spread out everywhere.. That would be a little crazy I don't think anyone would do that. At least I wouldn't.

Hahaha! Don't fall for that crap. I started my clinicals in San Antonio and around 4th term they sent an email (1 week before I was already booked to fly out to SA) that stated "by the way you are going to houston now instead of san antonio." Right. We got on the phone and they freely covered the change fee for the flights and all (which was awesome) but here's the kicker. It's not Houston. It's Port Arthur..about 1 hr 45mins away.

They ARE spread out, and disorganized. But if you choose to get in here, choose port arthur clinicals by a long shot. You'll be glad you did.
