New Grad RN, with B.S. in Psych but no BSN- Job prospects?

U.S.A. Washington

Hello, wise nurse community!

I have a B.S. in Psych and will have my ADN in May 2018 and am worried about my prospects- I was told that if I already had a Baccalaureate degree and was planning to pursue my Master's right after, I wouldn't have any problems.

However, I chatted online with the HR reps at a couple of hospitals and they said I wouldn't be competitive until I *had* my BSN, either.

Have any of you worked with or been new grads/new hires with people who don't have a BSN, but are RNs who have another Bachelor's?

Some of the home care services boast high wages, but is it still better to work in a hospital, or private office?

Thanks so much!

Hmm.. I know a lot of people who get jobs after with just their ADN although their intention is to also get their BSN within the next couple years after graduating with their ADN. I know they say to stress during an interview that your plan is to get your BSN because there are several programs that have a 1-year bridge program that are just online classes to obtain your BSN.

I am only speaking from what i've heard and seen with prior nursing students. I am pursuing my ADN because of cost then plan to get my BSN right after I finish my ADN.

Hope that helps a little. :)

What type of nursing are you interested in? A lot of Seattle area hospitals are hiring new graduates only through residency programs. I know for a fact that a BSN is prefered but not required. I just participated in my hospital's hiring day for new grads and we hired a number of ADNs. Most of them had done their senior practicum at the hopsital I worked at. But don't worry too much!
