I am looking into an on-line RN to BSN program. I hate writing papers. I see Post University has an alternate curriculum using SIM-path. I have been a working nurse for 40+ years. What are your thoughts? Thank-you.

RN to BSN programs are a popular option for nurses like yourself who have extensive experience and are looking to advance their education. Here's a breakdown of what you might consider:

Post University's SIMPath Program

Flexible Learning. The SIMPath program at Post University is designed for flexibility, allowing you to work at your own pace. It's particularly appealing to those who want to avoid traditional writing-intensive courses.

  • Competency-based. The SIMPath program is competency-based, meaning you progress through the curriculum by demonstrating your knowledge and skills in various areas rather than completing traditional assignments like papers. This could be advantageous if you prefer hands-on learning and practical application over academic writing.
  • Tailored for experienced nurses. Given your 40+ years of nursing experience, this program might be well-suited to you because it focuses on what you already know and allows you to leverage your extensive experience.

Pros

  • Less writing. Since you dislike writing papers, the SIMPath's focus on competencies and practical assessments could be a significant advantage.
  • Flexible schedule. Progressing at your own pace can help you balance your education with any other responsibilities.
  • Accelerated option. If you're highly motivated, you you're able to complete the program faster than traditional RN to BSN programs.

Cons

  • Self-Motivation required. Competency-based education requires strong self-discipline and time management skills. If you're not self-motivated, this could be challenging.
  • Different learning style. If you prefer structured learning with deadlines and more interaction, this program might feel isolating or challenging to navigate.

Conclusion

Given your extensive nursing experience and preference to avoid writing papers, Post University's SIMPath may be an excellent fit for you. It's designed to respect your existing knowledge and offers the flexibility to move through the curriculum in a way that aligns with your professional experience. However, ensure you're comfortable with the self-direction required in a competency-based program.

Best wishes,

Nurse Beth
