wanting to stay in contact with a retiring prof

Published

One of my professors is retiring after this semester, and I'm bummed because she is such a knowledgeable nurse educator and a very kind woman in general.

I would love to stay in contact with her as I go through my next two years of nursing school because she's been a great prof but as I said, she's retiring.

What should I do?

Specializes in Neuroscience.

Ask her if it's okay to email her while you're in school if you have any questions, because you respect her opinion. The worst she can say is "no", and then you're no worse off than you are now.

Do not add her to facebook, because she'll see all the things you say about school and what you post (both positive and negative). It may change the way she views you as a person and I'm sure she will have insight into the field/people she knows, and you don't want what you say in a moment of stress to affect your ability to get a job later.

thanks for the advice!

i won't have to worry about the facebook thing since i got rid of mine last year (one of the best decisions i've ever made), but it's a good reminder about using social media wisely.

What do you do?

Instead of writing this on this forum, say the same thing to her in person and follow it up with an e-mail to her.

This ain't rocket science... just simple interpersonal relations...
