Want to volunteer-Hurricane Sandy

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hello all,

I hope you are all safe and well if you can read this. I am a nurse in Northern Va and I wanted to know what I can do to help. I would like to donate my nursing skills and abilities to those that can use them if anyone knows of an organization or location in the areas impacted. If there is no healthcare assistance needed what else can we do as a community to help besides just donating money. I am sure I am not the only nurse who would like to help so feel free to share whatever information you might have. Thanks!

Call your local Red Cross or your local community/public health services department. I'm sure they can point you to where you'd be needed.

However, don't expect to be sent on "nursing-only" assignments. After disasters such as this, assistance is needed in many different forms, not just in nursing. If you truly want to help, you won't mind doing whatever they need you to, even if it's a non-nursing task like bringing in supplies.

Whatever you end up doing, stay safe.
