Want to travel, but scared

Published

I don't really know why I am posting this thread other then I would like a little reassurance.

I have been thinking of doing travel nursing for quite a while now, but I am so scared of giving up my full-time position on an OB unit, without the guarantee of having a postion waiting for me. It is just myself, so I obviously need the guarnatee of an income.

I love working OB and really don't want to do any other dept., but I know those positions are not as plentiful. I know if I could just take the first step and do it that I would love travel nursing.

Can anyone help with any advice or encouragement? Thank you.

Well I started traveling in April 2003 and just started my second assignment. I am enjoying it so far. My first assignment was in Tallahassee, FL. The people at the hospital were wonderful and I loved it. I just started my second one here in CA, the staff doesn't seem as friendly, but I am trying to keep an open mind. I am traveling with my cat and dog which really helps. My stress level has dropped immensly and my migraines are greatly reduced. It isa so nice not to be involved in the politics ond managerly BS. I'm actually enjoying nursing again.

Well Dawn I'am also going traveling the first time. I have been at the same hospital 26 years in ICU. It is scary also I'am 56 years old. I only hope there is some more nurses traveling that are my age. lol Go for it don't wait until your my age. It is worse to make the change and get out of your comfort zone. Shirley
