I have been pondering travel nursing for some time, and went to a few websites to start some research. Made the mistake of putting my contact information on a general site and POW, I received 40 phone calls the next day and over 100 emails from travel agencies. It is overwhelming to sort thru all of the information. Now, I just ignore the calls because each has its own nuances but I am sure that it is their 'pitch".
I would really like to seriously look into this, but was wondering from those who have "been there done that" if there are a select few agencies that are trustworthy or that you have had good experiences with. I have lots of questions, especially with taxes and such. I have 21 years of experience, 18 of which is in OB/Labor and Delivery. Apparently there are oodles of jobs just waitiing for me (according to the emails). Would like to take advantage of the opportunities out there, but am leary because this is totally uncharted territory for me.
Any advice or pearls of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!!

I am in the same boat. I plan on traveling in April of 2013. I have 25 years experience in OB as well. The recuitors I have spoken to say they need experienced nurses. And there seems to be an abundance of jobs out there. I am going to the travel conference in Oct 17 and 18th for more face to face information. the speakers are suppose to be good and the is a Tax guy there as well. The conference is in Las Vegas at the ARIA.
So far I'm prety sure about Fastaff and NursesChoice. Because I want short contracts at first until I get my feet on the ground. Several orthers out there sound good also.

Babyktchr - First off - I'm a nurse recruiter. Wait! Hear me out!!
I have been working with On Assignment for 10 months. I have never done recruiting before. With so many travel companies, there are lots and lots of options. I would suggest not choosing a travel company based on the jobs available (as many companies all have the same jobs) - but choose the one that is willing to find a GOOD FIT for you and your needs. Also - very bad idea to choose one company because they offer a "sign on bonus" or "completion bonus" - any time you see the word "bonus" - it means that they are witholding money from you to fulfill the bonus.
Consider this: every travel company charges the hospital $XX.XX per hour to provide a travel nurse. The travel company keeps a portion of the $XX.XX per hour to make profit and pay their staff and also pays you out of that. Every "sign on bonus/completion bonus" comes out of that $XX.XX per hour, so it's really no bonus at all!
Lastly - My girlfriend is a MSN - Midwife. I know first hand what Baby Catchers like you go thru :) Contact me any time with questions or just general advice!
