why do you want to be a nurse?

Hi everyone, just wanted to ask if you wanted to share.... why do you want to be a nurse?

Specializes in L&D, infusion, urology.

My goal is to be a certified nurse midwife, so nurse is part of that process. I love the approach to health care that nurses have, and I love being an integral part of the patient's experience. I love developing relationships with patients, helping them learn how to care for themselves and their newborns (I'm in mother baby), watching them transition into motherhood. I look forward to having long term relationships with patients and watching their families grow and change over time. When I worked in a family practice clinic, I loved getting to know my patients and seeing their kids grow and watching someone's health status change over time (both good and bad), going through the thick and thin with them. My heart goes into every patient care encounter. I love it. My experience as a corpsman (where I was in the FP clinic) really showed me how much I love patient care, and I have absolutely zero doubt that this is the right path for me.

Firstly, I love the environment (ER). It's fast-paced, crazy, and adventurous! You get to see so many different things; the learning never stops. Also, I have this 'thing' that I have to be a part of something meaningful. If I'm not a part of something meaningful then there just seems like no point to me. The best thing, though (which is rare in this neighborhood), is the happiness and thanks you receive from grateful patients. Albeit cliche, it's the truth. And even though it's quite draining that seemingly everyone uses the ED as their PCP, is rude, feels overly entitled, and fails to understand that we actually are here to help, it makes those smiling thanks upon discharge all the more heartwarming.

Thanks for sharing, I dont know how to explain it but I have this need to become a nurse and be part as you mentioned MedicalPartisan something important and meaningful

I was thinking about this today as I'm preparing for an interview next week. Nursing is the only field I've ever been interested in. I want to care for people and make a difference in their lives. I enjoy the opportunity to educate and love that, as nurses, we have a never ending learning curve.
