Want to get out of nursing, What can an ex-RMN do?

Published

So, I'm fed up with nursing and am seriously thinking of packing it and the NHS in, but I'm left wondering what employers which pay about the same or more than a Grade 5(E) would be looking for an ex-RMN? I most definitely don't want to go through a lengthy training period again, either, so counseling and the like are out, as is social work.

And please, no sales jobs :D

Any ideas?

What about an adult education course (they are quite short) then you could become a tutor or lecturer instead of being clinical?

Ps. My husband left nursing for landscape gardening he is SO much happier!

Specializes in Psychiatric Nurse.

Hi, I left the NHS back in 99, I was fed up with the negative and unsupportive healthcare system. I then worked for a local government agency, and you needed to be a trained healthcare professional to do the job (not social services). It was great. I had a supportive manager and utilised my nursing skills far more than I ever did in health.

There are loads of 'related' jobs out there that pay well, its a case of looking into the ones that sound interesting, have a good pay rate and a secure tenure.

However I now live in Australia and nurses particularly psychiatric ones, have no value outside of health, so whilst I would like to escape the health services I have had to resign myself to appreciating what I've got rather than spreading my wings.

Don't forget you can always go back if it doesn't work out.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
