I just found out about a 20 mile (yikes!) walk taking place in Chicago (also in San Francisco) in August. It is sponsored by the Americal Foundation for Suicide Prevention http://www.AFSP.org I am considering try to do it, but was wondering if anyone has heard about it and know where it will be? I live in Oklahoma and would have to fly to CHI and find a place to stay, so need to know if it's in Chicago proper or in a suburb. I'm trying to decide if I can get myself in shape for 20 miles by then and come up with the required money ($1000 minimum for each walker) and the travel/lodging expenses. Even if I can't, I thought some of you in the Chicago area might be interested. This is an issue that is close to my heart because I am a survivor of suicide attempts and wish there was more education and awareness out there about suicide.
I have requested info on this, but if anybody else has info, please let me know. If I decide to do it, I may have to pick some brains for finding info on good, cheap hotels as well!
Thanks!
