I’m doing an interim gig as a nurse manager on a short term unit. I have 90% agency staff...licensed and CNAs. Needless to say, it’s not easy getting things done. Weights...I start telling them to get the weights but there are so many other things to do. So today the interim DNS says ‘there are only 29 residents. I don’t know why you can’t get weights done’ No one calls the docs but me. No one books transportation but me. I spent the first 2 hours today trying to get a guy to his scheduled surgery. I almost walked out but I don’t have it in me to walk out. I’ve been a DNS for 14 years and would NEVER say that at a meeting where there were other staff members.
Yikes. End of rant

Yikes indeed. Sounds like a place that’s really struggling, and it doesn’t sound as if the DNS is helping any. If she “doesn’t know” why the weights can’t get done, why the *&^% doesn’t she look around on the floors and see what is going on in her building, instead of using this as a weapon to embarrass you in a meeting? You showed integrity in not leaving them in the lurch. Good luck.

Yikes. We have unit clerks that do that! I can’t imagine how stressful your place of work is. We are low on census as well so of course that’s all we hear. We’re still busy!!! We couldn’t get things done before and now we are just barely keeping up. What an ***. It doesn’t help anything trying to insult people. Go team!
