Wake Forest Ior Forsyth ICU?

Published

Big (& EXCITING) decision to make:

I am a December new grad & have to make a decision of either working in ICU @ Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center or Forsyth Medical Center. I have been sorting out pros & cons based on my personal needs/wants, but would be eternally grateful for any outside input!

I work in one of the adult MICU's at WFUBMC. I went through the new grad program there. I would highly recommend working at "the Baptist". You can send a PM if you have specific questions

Thanks for the input WolfpackRed- I guess my biggest concern is coming straight out of school into WFUBMC's 3 month orientation compared to Forsyth's 6 month plan. I'm also a little intimidated by the open floor plan of the ICU at Wake Forest- it seems like a strange setup, what do you think?

Not sure about the 3 vs 6 month tract. I can say that the Journeys (new grad) program is 12 months long. During the first week I did the standard hospital orientation, then came ~3 week in general nursing orientation classes. After that there was ~2+ months in critical care orientation classes. After that, I went to the unit for another 3 months of on unit orientation; while on the unit, the staff development person rounded frequently to ensure that we had our needs met. During the remaining 6 months, all the new grads meet monthly for more classes.

Again, this was my experience. Others may have additional input.
