waive pay raise for insurance? or raise the hourly salary?

Published

I have started working for a doctor's office for about a week now. When he interviewed me he told me that the other MA's were getting 17/hour (theres only two MA in the office and I'm the only LPN) I said that i was a new nurse and was working for a nursing home during the weekend. He said that he would start me at 14/hr and raise my pay every 6 months. My coworker who's been working for him for 8 years happen to have a conversation about how much i was making at the nursing home and I happen to ask him about what the doctor told me when he interviewed me. He mentioned to me that he asked him if my coworker wanted insurance or a pay raise. Obviously he went for insurance.

My job at the nursing home was my first job ever, fresh out of school i landed the job there as a per diem with no benefits(their policy) So i dont really know how pay raises work in doctor's offices. Is it not possible to have both insurance and a pay raise? and being the nurse there will my hourly wage be a little more than what my MA coworkers make?

Don't worry what your coworkers make. Find out what a reasonable pay for a LPN in your position is and go from there. :twocents:
