waiting list for Trinitas Hospital School of Nursing / Newark area nursing schools?

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

Hi, everyone:

I live in Newark, currently I am studying for a professiona license required by the job. I will be done in the Summer, I wish to go into nursing program in September. But I heard there is naturally average 2 -year waiting list for nursing programs? I am really worried.

I have a BA in other field already. I am thinking going to a community college ASD. Those acceralted programs requires full-time, and is not possible for me. Tuition is also a big issue, I cannot afford to go to private schools like Seton Hall, Bloomfiled, nor public schools like Rutger. Also I worked during the day, so I cannot go to Essex County College either, they only have day program.

My question is: I mostly interested in Trinitas Hospital school of nursing. Anybody know any waiting list there at Union County College?

BTW, I need to take almost all the pre-rquisite courses, so if there is a waiting list, can I take these pre-requisites during waiting time? or do I have to wait to take these courses too?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

You mean I'll have to camp out for both 130 AND 132? Wow. I want this so bad, I think maybe I'll get there the night before - like midnight or something. Maybe sit in my car until the line begins to form.

Two of my friends were also trying to get into 130. They actually camped out around 12:30 until the school opened and they still didn't get in. I couldn't believe it. When I started at Trinitas a few years ago (it was still Elizabeth General), we didn't have to go through any of that stuff. All we had to do was fill out the registration form and put it in the counselor's mailbox. They would just put the registration in for us. But then again, there weren't that many people in the school yet. But yeah, Tower is right....there are a lot of people who start out in NURE 130, but then by the time 232 comes around, it's good if there are 20 people left in the class. There were only 11 people in the days class that graduated with me last January. I think there about 30 of us that graduated - days, evenings, and LPN to RN program.

Hmmm.... what do your friends plan on doing next semester to try to get in? Begin waiting at 5:00pm the night before? A counselor told me that people started lining up at 5:00pm for fall semester.

I think I would go crazy if i waited from midnight until morning and still didn't get in!

I think Trinitas is going to have to make admission more competitive and based on GPA, not one's ability to arrive at registration first.

Good luck to your friends, and thanks.

ChellevRn is right. You may start out with about 80 people in 130, and by program end in 232, you are lucky if there are 10 people. My 132 class this semester had forty people in January. ABout 30 -35 remained the entire semester to take the final. Of those 35, there are only 5 of us, thus far that I know of that have passed. And this is only the evening group. I am not sure how people faired during the day class. 132, is a tough class, and as I said in a previous post, you will basically have no life. I heard the same thing about the program, when it was still Elizabeth General. Things were not this crazy. The demand for nurses is so high right now in the entire US, that everyone wants in, and that is not going to change anytime soon.

More competitive entry guidlines would make more sense for Trinitas. Either in the form of an entry exam, or making sure all pre-requisites are completed before you are even allowed to apply for entry. Who knows if and when that will come about. What's unfortunate is that if, you do decide on going to Trinitas, you will have to contend with the large volume of people when registering for the first two semesters of the program. It's basically first come first serve, so spending the night in front of school, to guarantee you get in is all you can do. It sucks, but what else can you do.

Thanks for all your advice! You really seem to kn stuow your way around. No suprise you were one of the few remaining students. When do you graduate?

And one final question (hopefully ;) -- Given that the op said her two friends stood in line at 12:30 the night before registration and they still didn't get into 130, how early would you get there? Would I have an advantage by registering at the Elizabeth campus? I wonder if they are better staffed/more organized than Cranford. Cranford seemed very understaffed when I registered for my pre-reqs for fall.

Thanks again!

God Willing, I graduate next May. It's been too long in coming, so I am really looking forward to it.

If you plan on registering, go right to the Elizabeth campus. That is where all the classes are held, and Trinitas has the Nursing School offices on the 5th floor. I have never wasted my time in Cranford, I always go to Elizabeth and deal with them there. It also makes sense since I am in Linden and it takes me all of 5 minutes to drive to the Elizabeth Campus.

As for what time to get there, I got there 5:30 am the day of registration, and managed to get into 131. From what I recall 130 I had no problem getting in. Things have changed since 2002 though. I would keep trying during add/drop to register. Even now I would keep trying to register. If anyone does not pay their term bill, the system kicks them out of the class and opens up a spot, so you may luck out.

Wow....this is scaring me. I was accepted into Trinitas earlier this year. The letter did state that I may have to wait a semester to get into 130....but camping out... :o...that's terrible. I don't understand why UCC/Trinitas doesn't have online registration like other universities/colleges. This would save a trememdous of time and unnecessary waiting. Being that they are such a competitive program I think they should have a criteria of admittance.

Fatima (hoping to start in the Fall)

Fatima,

Are you planning on attending the June 3 Trinitas Nursing informational event? It is from 5:30-7:00 pm. I plan on attending and hopefully getting the full scoop on how to enroll in 130.

If I need to camp out, I will, but I would like to know how early I should be there -- would hate to bet there at 5:00 pm the night before and STILL not get into the class.

I agree, the process is very archaic. I am hoping that will change. You can get yourself on the waiting list by calling the nursing dept. Maybe they will decide to enroll the top people on the waiting list for Spr semester? That would be great!

Melly,

I've decided not to attend Trinitas in the Fall. I recieved my acceptance letter today to the CC that I currently attend (Essex County College). Good luck at Trinitas!!!

Congratulations!!!! I am back at Essex County for the Fall semester... I would have been eligible to apply for the Evening program January 2005 but I dropped Chemistry at Union County. so I am taking it in September with Medical Terminogy... and Taking A&P II and Micro in the spring 2005...this way I can apply for the January 2006 ...its a little longer than I anticipated..BUT... I have always wanted to do it.. so whatz a few more months. right...

Congratulations Again!!!

Veggienurse,

That's wonderful!!!!! I've been waiting since 2002 to get accepted into this program again....so yes...a waiting for a little while longer won't hurt. I am also taking Micro in the Fall along with Nursing 107 and Math 116 (Medical Math Calculations)...I also registered for Pharmacology during the early registration period....but I'm seriously thinking of dropping it...I think that would be a bit much....so I may take a PE class (1 cr.) to hold a full-time course load.

Fatima

Fatima,

Why did it take so long to get into the program? Do they have a long waiting list for ECC? I talked with the counselor and she said they have one, but not really...if you have the pre-reqs down and get a good grade on the entrance exam you are good... Now I am nervous about not getting in.... I want to be in the night program starting January 2006. Which program are you in? Daytime or nightime?

Thanks!!

Veggienurse,

It's not that it took me so long to get in. I did get accepted into the September 2002 program, but I gave up my spot. I was pregnant with my 4th child and having lots of complications, my ob/gyn didn't know if I was going to be able to carry him. Fortunately, I was able to carry him until 38 wks....which is pretty good...he was healthy...which is all my dh and I could've asked for. :-) I did apply and take the NET for the September 2003 program, but I didn't get in. They did give me a 2nd chance to take the NET being that I came so close to passing. Once I received my score back they gave me a choice of starting in the "new" January 2004 program (which I couldn't do) or September 2004....and I chose Fall 2004. But don't worry, I'm sure you'll get in.....you can do it!!!!
