W.I.A.?

Have any of y'all used W.I.A. to pay for your education? If so, what was your experience? I am trying to get funding but I am really afraid they will run out of money and my schooling will be delayed... :nailbiting: Do you guys have any suggestions for alternative means I can use to pay? The school I want to go to only offers scholarships in the fall.

I applied for WIA my last 4 weeks of school...and to my surprise I was approved. They paid the rest of my tuition! I had money left over so my worker put it aside for nclex & license etc...so once I passed and paid for fingerprints license and etc..I sent her my receipts showing proof I paid and passed! She submitted my paperwork to finance and I will get a refund for it in 6-8 weeks!! It worked for me!

Thank you so much for your response! If you don't mind me asking, how long ago did you do this? Also, why did you wait until the end of your program to apply? Did it take a while to get approved?

I applied in the end of June.. I originally applied in the county that I lived and was denied due to me already enrolled in my program. So when I moved someone told me to apply in the new county that I reside. So I did and to my surprise I was approved!

Your welcome!!

No it didn't take long at all.. I applied the end of june and I pick up my Voucher a couple of weeks later! You should apply. They can only say yes or no.

Thank you so much! You are totally awesome for responding so quickly. You're right about that, they can only say yes or no. I am hoping to get approved so I can save my financial aid for when I go back for my degree. I would like to get as much education as I can spending as little of my money as I can. ;)

What is it?

W.I.A. stands for Workforce Investment Act. Its a program that helps people become trained for more gainful employment. You apply through your local Career One Stop Center and if approved, they pay for up to 2 years of technical training. Here's a link to give you some additional information and you can also view programs by state and see if they are eligible for funding.

I don't think there is a certain income limit per se', however I believe your income must be low enough to qualify for public assistance like food stamps or you can be on unemployment. I am currently unemployed so I had no problem with that one. You don't have to be receiving them, just eligible. They require you to look for a job so if you get one don't worry because they don't cut you off. They want people to complete the programs they start. Also your skills are no longer in demand or difficult to find a job that requires those skills. I am not certified to do anything and most of the jobs I have had in the last 3 years have been temp jobs. Unfortunately I have been out of work since August. If you are wanting to apply, you need to go to your local Career One Stop Center. I think it is the same as the unemployment office. Like Futurenurse108 said, apply. The only thing they can do is say yes or no. :) I think it is well worth a try though!
