So to open a discussion... I am a second semester nursing student and although I will be busy, I decided to include volunteering as a part of my semester plan this term. Just 4 hours a week and I managed to get my speciality of interest. So I am very excited to help, watch, and learn as much as I can. Plus I figure in this job market it sure can help to make contacts for job prospects in the future.
Have any of you volunteered or are volunteering during nursing school?

hi,im starting nursing 1 this fall and decided to volunteer at the hospital where our school is affiliated. I opted to volunteer at a nurse's station so I can pretty much observe and learn some new skills and what not since i don't have any experience working at a hospital or even nursing home settings.. it's a good experience and right now since its summer i do it for 4 hrs a week, but come september, i might reduce it to 2 hrs/wk since i have to concentrate in school.

Yep! I volunteered at our local Free Clinic, and it was this experience that allowed me to network with MDs and RNs...When I interviewed for my current position (I work in a CDU), they were impressed with my volunteer experience and it helped to be able to name-drop and show that I care about my community.
