Volunteer opportunities in San Francisco?

Hi, I am currenly taking my pre-reqs for nursing at SFSU and I really want to do volunteer work. I would love to work with children and also be able to practice my spanish. Does anyone know of any great places or organizations to volunteer at and has anyone had great experiences volunteering? Thanks so much! Jackie

i'm not sure that you'd be able to work with kids much but you could work with the red cross. they even have really cool volunteer pins for students, LPN's and RN's. they treat their nurse volunteers really well and really appriciate the work you do.

also check out www.americorps.org. they have a lot of kid focused programs that you might be able to do while going to school... depending on the program. you could even do a shorter term (summer) and earn a voucher to pay for school.
