Does anyone know of any organizations where you can do volunteer work abroad, for a week or 2 at a time, specifically related to maternity or L&D?

Are you a military spouse? Nurses can volunteer as a nurse with the Red Cross. That is how many civilian spouses find jobs at my hospital. You do all the things a nurse does, you just don't get paid. This is probably not what you are looking for though. The kind of volunteering I am talking about is more about getting your foot in the door to find a job.

There are lots of religious groups that do short-term medical mission trips abroad, but I've never heard of one specifically focused on OB. You might want to contact churches in your area and ask if they have contacts with any groups that do trips like that.

You could try project hope, I know a nurse who volunteers two weeks every year with them.
