Vocational Schools?

Published

Considering the waitlist for many RN programs out there, is there any vocational schools that would give an ADn just like a community college would? I can't wait anymore. Not getting any younger.

A growing number of proprietary technical/vocational schools are offering RN programs, because they've decided that's where the big bucks are, but they charge several times what a community college would for the same level of education (you pay through the nose for the "convenience" of no waiting lists and their willingness to take pretty much anyone who will pay them), and, if (when) you decide later on, as many, many nurses do, that you want to further your education to further your career opportunities, the courses/credits from most of those schools cannot be transferred to any other school so you have to pretty much start all over again.

IMHO, it's a big mistake to go that route. There are quite a few existing threads here on this topic, with many posts by people who feel they were seriously ripped off. There are also some folks who feel that they got what they were looking for and had a good experience. It's a v. personal decision.

Thank you very much Elk Park for your response. I have a much better understand of why it is probably not the best idea. I already have it in my mind that after i complete RN i will then want to go possible for a BSN. Thanks again
