This seems clear on what you need to do for renewal of vsc http://www.cgfns.org/files/pdf/apps/VisaScreenReApp.pdf
If you trained in Canada but not Quebec then you are exempt from English exams, number 10 on the first page indicates that you still have to get the BON/BRN to send something in confirm there have been no problems with your license.
Quotes from link above
Applicants who have graduated from a college, university, or professional training school located in Australia, Canada (except
Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States are exempt from the English language requirement of Section 343.
List information regarding any additional registration/license
obtained since your initial CGFNS/ICHP VisaScreen® application.
Forward a Request for Validation of Registration/License form to the
licensing/registration authorities in your country of education and in
all the country/countries where you have been licensed. The top
portion of the form must be prepared by you, the applicant, the
bottom portion is to be completed by the registration authority. If
you need more Request for Validation of Registration/License Form(s)
simply photocopy the form.
If you hold a lifetime license or certificate to practice you still must
have a validation completed to document that there have been no
suspensions, revocations or restrictions on your practice since the
initial validation was received by CGFNS/ICHP.

Hi,
I am a Canadian nurse working in California. I am in the process of renewing my visascreen as it will expire near the end of this year.
1) Do I still need to send a request for validation of registration/license from CA BON or can CGFNS just go on the CA BON and verify that I am current (without revocation, etc since that info is current and all there).
I have only renewed my RN license with the CA BON (no additional licenses while I've been here).
2) Do I have to also request validation of registration/license from the nursing schools that licensed me in Canada again to show that I am proficient in speaking English thus exempt from having to do the English test.
Unfortunately, the hours of the visascreen call center are limited and my work schedule doesn't help. Hopefully, I can get a quick response here.
