Virtual Nursing

My hospital is setting up to do Virtual Nursing. These nurses will help with admissions, discharges, and a second set of eyes for meds/skin assessments. I wondered if anyone is already doing this and how it is going.  Thanks,

I can see helping with the "paperwork" of the admit. However, I do not see how you can remotely do any type if physical assessment, such as skin. You just cannot beat a hands on physical assessment.

Need more details. I'm with above poster - how do you do a physical assessment especially skin assessment virtually?

They are setting up cameras in the room that can zoom in so close you can look at IV sites, etc. The cameras can't record.

MDs have been doing virtual evaluations since covid.   You can research online what is and is not doable via virtual.  I question a lot of documentation by virtual exam, but I also do see that most MDs will document 'unable to assess due to telehealth exam".

Hi! I am actually a certified virtual nurse for my hospital, and we have definitely seen benefits! Some programs may have it set up a little differently. But essentially, we assist with ADT, chart review, paging MDs for our bedside nurses, rounding, patient and family updates - just to name a few. We have a process to co-sign medications and can help with electronic forms, calling facilities/pharmacies for medication lists. All these things I have done as a bedside nurse, and as we know, it takes up sooo much precious time away from hands-on patient care. I assume by the time I post this, you have already started your program. Interested to know how it's going!
