It was a huge win for professionals who are recovering from Opioid Use Disorder when the Department of Justice found Indianas monitoring program in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. They have changed their policy and now allow nurses to be on prescription medications for treatment of OUD, such as, Buprenorphine. It would be fair and just if states across the board would also change their policies to reflect this.
I urge you to take action, look up your states policy, and contact the Department of Justice to report the unfair discrimination against nurses who are protected by the American Disabilities Act. It is a short, easy form to fill it. We work hard for our licenses, hard for our recovery, and now we must work hard for our RIGHTS as Nurses!
We do recover!
