Villanova BSN Express

Published

Hi,

Is there anyone who is applying for admission for May 2009? Is anyone currently attending the program?

Hello,

I am a current student in the BSN Express and will be graduating this July. My class had around 85 students.... they only accept around 15-20 in the alternative program (2 year). On the housing topic..... there are plenty of apartments available in the Villanova area (Bryn Mawr, Ardmore, Conshy, Manayunk). Make sure you don't make the wrong decision and live too far from campus..... your commute to clinical sites could be far... and when you have to be on the floor by 6:45 am and you have a ton (and I mean a ton) of work to do when you get home.... you don't want to spend your time commuting.

If you send Susan Leighton an email about your housing concerns she will help you. We had a list of names of people looking for housing and that's how a majority of people found roommates.... hope this helps :)

Thanks a lot for the information. How many students are accepted into the BSN Express program? I'm planning on entering May '11. Also, I want to have a "safety school" so I don't just apply to Nova. I'm thinking of West Chester, but the reauirements seem to be more difficult for admission (undergrad gpa they want 3.5 and cutoff for science pre-reqs is a 2.75). Why is this?

I'd like to find roommates in the BSN express program as well, but I'm guessing there aren't that many men in the program?

they accepted around 85-86 into our program.... there are about 79 of us left. I don't think anyone in our program had an undergrad gpa less than 3.3.... your in a room full of some of the best of the best... and it's a great way to enhance your learning. Some other 2nd degree schools in the area are: Jefferson, Drexel, Newman, West Chester, Harcum... hope that helps.

Thanks for the helpful information. I had a 3.2 undergrad overall gpa, so I'll try really hard in my science pre-reqs to become a stronger candidate. Nonetheless, it always seems like people embellish their GPAs when speaking to fellow students in their program... If the cutoff for undergrad gpa is 3.0, is it safe to assume that Villanova rejects a good amount of people that have GPAs below the 3.3 plus average?

Are there many men in the program? Just curious as I am a male.

Thanks for your help Zia.

I am doing a ton of research and am very interested in the Villanova program. My biggest concern is that I keep hearing that recent grads are not getting jobs. ANyone have any info, either positive or negative??

HI All,

I'm wandering if anybody completed he BSN Express program with a kids and family. I have 2 young kids and just wandering if it's really possible to be able to handle the Express program and a family at the same time =)

I guess I'm just getting nervous!

Thanks!

@ jbbolendz,

I'm hearing the same concern in Philadelphia and here in Texas (where I currently live). But from what I've gathered, I think you'll have an easier time if you are willing to move to where the jobs are. I'v read that there is still a high demand for nurses but they are usually in the midwest or in smaller towns and cities that people don't choose to move to. I think if your flexible in location, you might have an easier time finding a job. Hope this helps!

It's not just your GPA that is important... it's also your previous work experiences, and extracurricular activities you have done, so don't let just the GPA be a deciding factor to where you apply. There were 6 men in my class, however, there are 18 in the new BSNExpress class that just started.

The program was wonderful but hard... but as long as you have the right focus I'm sure you will do well.

Yes, we had students who were mothers of small children and they did well :) It can be done but it will require the support of your family to help out when you need to study. If you stay on top of all your readings & assignments I'm sure you will be OK. However, there is a 2 year program available at Villanova if you feel more comfortable doing that. I do not have any children and I don't know how some of them did it... but they did :)

Does Villanova require an inperson interview? I have a pretty packed schedule this semester going to school from Monday to Saturday. Can they do a phone interview instead?

I know for students who live further away or might be unable to attend may possibly do a phone interview but I would confirm that or ask the programs Director.... just to be on the safe side :)
