What's your opinion on the value of the 22 wk Versant new grad residency program? The only hospital around here to offer it is a children's hospital. Though it's a fine facility, they start you out $1.50 to $2.00/ hr less than the other hospitals and have REALLY crappy differentials. I also believe there is a 2 year work contract involved.:uhoh21:
Now, although I have the top grades in my class, I am sorely lacking in clinical confidence. I am also one of the VERY few of my classmates that is not working as a tech. (I have no previous medical experience at all.) I am petrified of graduation. I think the reason I'm considering the Versant is that I'm hoping for hand holding and an easier transition from student to nurse.
Is it worth it or am I selling myself short?

Yes, go ahead with Versant to improve clinical confidence. It will show you how to work the facilities IV pumps, how to get the name of a doctor and call him/her, what you need to document, how to approach a patient initially, you will have a preceptor and a mentor, you will learn that you are a novice and will be taken to the level of "advanced beginner", you will realize that it will take quite some time until you are competent or even proficient, and there will be a system for incremental improvement. There will be less going home and crying!
