VCU students

Published

Hi everyone

I'm looking for someone to chat with either here, email, or on facebook who goes to VCU and is currently or has been accepted into the nursing program. I'm currently at NVCC in sterling VA getting the pre reqs/co reqs out of the way but Ive been really interested in chatting with someone who's in the program and knows the school. I guess im nervous because its a big school for me and i want to know what to expect from nursing school. I'm working part time at a local hospital as a nurse tech(their word for a secretary) and have 2 kids (3rd one is due in may). I figure it'll take me 2 years to get them all done. If anyone is interested :) feel free to reply or email me. Thanks!!

My daughter is in the School of Nursing at VCU working on her BSN and she loves it! She doesn't get on Allnurses but I enjoy reading the posts. If I can help in any way, let me know.

Thanks! I guess right now im wondering how many classes is she taking per semester and how does she figure out which ones to take? How much homework is she getting?projects? I really have no clue what to expect at all, lol so im sorry if these questions seem silly. Im sure ill think of more later :p

She is a second semester freshman in the BSN program. Only 30 were accepted as freshman. If you go to the web site it gives you all of the classes you will be taking and what year in the program you'll take them.

There are different requirements depending on what background/degrees you may have before entering the program.

Next year VCU school of nursing will add 32 more students as sophmores which totals 62 in the class that will graduate in 2013. It's highly competitive to get in but well worth the effort.

The fact that you're currently working at a hospital is a huge advantage. The admissions committee really does read the essay and they give out scholarships too. My daughter got her tuition paid for with scholarships. It's so easy to apply for them, just one additional essay is all it takes.

If you're planning on getting into the program this fall you need to get your application in asap. They have rolling admissions so you could know if you're accepted as soon as Feb.

No, your questions aren't silly at all. I love talking about the program. As I said, my daughter loves it there and it's quite prestigious. I tell her about allnurses but she just doesn't have the time to get on. Studying is a full-time job for her right now. All ages get accepted into the program as sophmores so the fact that you have children wouldn't be a deterrent.

I'd be happy to answer any other questions that you have if I can.

Sincerely,

Cathy
