Vanderbilt Statement of career goals???

Published

I want to apply to Vandy this fall but I am wondering about the SOP...are there two parts? Are they asking you to write about yourself in the SOP and another essay on the interview survery or are these the same thing. On the application under interveiw survey..those six items..are they just having you expound on your SOP covering those topics??? Thanks for any help sent my way....:)

excellent question...

I am completing the same application, and I am somewhat confused about the entire writing phase.

which specialty are you applying for?

I am planning to apply for FNP. I am still thinking about the SOP.....I may try to read some samples online to get a better idea how they are worded....What about you...what program????

I, too, am applying for the FNP program! :)

Vandy has always been a dream of mine, but putting your life into words can be tricky at times... I have read as many other threads as I could find regarding career goal statements and such. There were some good points to be made (keep it professional, but let your personality show; yes, schools really read these things; etc.)

Are you from/in TN? I live about an hour out of Nashville.

Hey Silver!

I have not yet posted 15 times, so it will not let me send a private message???

Anyway, I will check out the website. Thanks for sending it!

And the name... it was something crazy I came up with b/c my last name is Barnes... :D and yes, I am from a very rural area, but could hardly be called "country"

Keep me up to date on how your writing is going!

Hi, I am currently in my 1st year of NP school at Vandy, and the statement of purpose or goals statement is really a chance for you to introduce yourself, talk about your goals for your career, and show them your uniqueness and the contribution that you will make to the field. The interview questions are separate and may seem somewhat redundant because you probably will have discussed some of those things already, but be creative and have fun with your goals statement, but of course be professional as was mentioned earlier. Good luck and God bless! This really is an awesome program!
