Hello! I have seen forums for the previous years' application cycles, but not for the class starting fall 2012.
Sooo... how's it going for everyone? I take the GRE on Friday (gah!) so of course I'm trying to avoid studying for that!
AnaLong.. I was accepted into FNP too! I wonder how many are in our group.
Barbaraleev -- Talk about your experience shadowing nurses/volunteering/love for helping people/ and that is why you want to go into nursing. Maybe an experience volunteering made you feel like you connected with the profession and wanted to do what they do!
@Barbaraleev: when they ask the question, "why nursing"- tell them a story. Was there a significant point in your life that made you think about going into the nursing field, well better yet, your specialty. Don't stop there. Tell them what you plan on doing with a career in nursing/specialty. Remember that this your time to share about who you are. Be specific. There are hundreds of applicants who may have said the same thing, so try to stand out.
Questions to anticipate:
These are some questions that I was asked when I interviewed for a different program- Why this school? (Make sure you go online and research everything the school has to offer- do they have extracurricular activities that will help you to become a better nurse? The school may also have a clinic that allows student nurses to volunteer so they can gain some experience); What do you know about nursing/specialty? What are some current issues in nursing/specialty? (They ask these two questions because they want to know if you are serious about nursing/specialty. Look at journals/articles online about current issues. Don't just pick an issue. Pick something that you care about. Again, try to give personal account to the issues. Maybe when you volunteered at a hospital you saw something that wasn't right or something like that).
Also, go over the interview questions from Vandy. What is your learning style? How do you handle conflicts (for this question- be specific by telling them a personal account)? Was there a difficult situation in your life and how did you overcome it (and what did you learn from it)?
Lastly, be yourself.
I'm sure you'll do great!!! Best of luck!!!
Hey BigM, sounds like you got it rough. You have to chose between Vanderbilt and a top Ivy League school. Poor you, Haahaa. Honestly I know it is a tough decision for you. However, I am a PMHNP hopeful who hasn't heard yet. So if I was to find out that I got wait listed I think you should go with Columbia. If I'm fortunate enough, like you, to get an acceptance letter, then I say come to Vanderbilt and let's be classmates. Again, kidding. Anyhow, I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing which state you live in and if you wouldn't mind providing any stats for some of us PMHNP hopefuls. Most of all, congratulations on your acceptance and your problem seems to be a good one to have. There doesn't appear to be a bad decision either way. Great Job!

Hi friends! Has anyone applied after the recommended deadline, like me? My app was submitted on January 30. Is anyone in a similar situation? Have you heard anything from the program? Can't wait for the final decision...
