Hey guys,
I have recently decided that instead of retaking my TEAS test before this application deadline that I'm going to apply with the scores I have. I have all A's in psychology, anatomy, and English. Those A's bring my score to a 60/60.
As far as the TEAS test goes... I studied, but only online and didn't by the book because a nursing adviser said it wasn't necessary. I only got a 65/100 on the TEAS which I know is horrible, but I know that if I retake it now that I've been studying the TEAS V Study Manual for 2 weeks I still might not even get a better score and be screwed for two years until I can retake it again. I feel like it would be better to try applying now and if I don't get into either the ASN or the LPN program that I can study all summer and take it so I can apply in the fall.
I was wondering what you guys were applying with. If you're at a different Ivy Tech, do you know what scores they usually accept? I've heard from someone in the nursing program that the highest they've seen was a 145/160. My score adds up to a 125/160.
Thanks!

Hey there. I'm new on here but I can relate so I just wanted to reply. I just sent in all my apps yesterday to multiple campuses. I'm in the same boat as you with all A's totaling to 60 points in the grades. I thought I would do much better (or at least somewhat better) on the TEAS than I actually did. I'm with you there too, 66% on it. My advisor "advised" me back in the beginning of February, when I was originally going take my first TEAS test, to push it out until later to get more study time in. She stated that when taking the test twice within the 2 month time span, that there really is not much improvement that she has ever seen in the scores. Of course I planned on taking it in February, saving spare time to pass in case I needed to retake it before deadline. After hearing the advisor talk about it though, it made sense and I decided it would be wiser to just study longer/harder. Yeah.. Apparently I studied obviously lacking the best book & resources! I studied a little bit each day for a month and still performed like I did. I ran out of time on the first two sections (reading and then math) so of course that's a huge factor that brought it down. There were several unanswered questions. I actually did ok in the math still though but it is weighted less. And same with English, I got an 80% there but it didn't help out where I was lacking in the other areas.
So anyway.. My point - I still went ahead and gave it my best shot turning my apps in. The way I see it, we still got labeled proficient on the test. I've been reading all about the scores on posts here and reading from those that got accepted. To get into ASN it would need to be a bit better of a score, yes. Mostly I've seen the cut off (lowest in for fall) like low 130's. That's for ASN though. PN would obviously go from the lowest accepting ASN score and on down. So we most definitely have a shot getting accepted. Not as a first choice of course but I'm sure we'll get in. Just be sure to apply to multiple locations if you can. I went ahead and still sent in a few ASN apps with my PN apps to campuses as well just because.. You never know. Also, I have heard that getting into the spring cohort is not quite as tough as fall. The scores dip down lower. Just read around here a lot and you might notice that being said.
I'm just keeping my fingers crossed. I wish good luck to you! And I'll be looking to see if you got in and where when the time comes! Such a long anxious wait we have to endure lol. Keep positive! Make sure you turn in every piece that is required for your application!
