Valencia Spring 2020

For those who applied for Fall semester 2019 and got waitlisted, and now waiting for the Spring. Also for new applicants as well. Trying to be proactive ?

Don't know why I'm writing this but I figured I'd be nice. I just had several people in my group drop out because they weren't strong students and thought they could work 30 to 40 hours a week and didn't plan financially otherwise. They don't tell you that Nursing 1 tests are all based off of NCLEX style questions, which you have to understand NCLEX strategies to really answer as the textbook only covers concept.

The strong students figured this out after the first test and the weaker students just drowned. Watched 2 girls in my group cry in class as they said they couldn't devote anymore time to studying due to needing to work full time and children. And how no one told them that they needed several whole days to study.

These people were just studying from the book and bashing their heads over and over against the wall withdraw deadline came and reality hit them. Not saying you can't work as several classmates did, but they were CNAs and only did Per Diem and were straight A students.

Everyone is different, and to do nursing you have to rely on others for help as well. Working in a hospital setting for over ten years there’s not one nurse that can do everything- you will need the help of others. Nursing is a team effort, you mean to tell me people sat there and watched them fail out of nursing instead of helping? I could never be that person. Nursing is hard and I know it will be difficult, but when you have a home and children to provide for its hard NOT to work. We all have to make sacrifices to be successful. Not everyone can live off of their parents, get financial aid or take out personal loans. I’m definitely one of those people who will be working (Night shift- 36hrs a week) and will be paying out of pocket for school. I’ve had many coworkers that worked two jobs, have kids, maintain a home, and still passed nursing school. So it’s very much doable. It’s all about time management- you can be a straight A student but it all depends on your time management skills.

I never actually wrote that you couldn't work a full time job and succeed, merely those they weren't strong students (academically) couldn't. Your just projecting your own insecurities on to my post.

There are many LPNs that work full time and succeed in the program, their just in the advanced standing track and not in traditional.

You somehow took offense to what I wrote when I am using my experience in the program not my personal opinion. And in regards to not affording not to work, that's not my or anyone's problem, that's your problem. If you had attended Seminole State's information session you would've known what's expected of you. Because Valencia really doesn't hammer it in and several people wasted thousands of dollars and a big hit to their GPA because of it.

Your reaction is actually hilarious because when I asked those who withdrew how much their studying and commented on how little time they spent studying they immediately got super cagey and defensive like you did in regards to their financial needs as if that needs to stated at all. I also can't afford not to work, but you know what? I was mature enough to research and then planned for this by saving up for this moment over several years. But hey, that's just being a mature responsible adult rather than just stumbling into *** and getting mad when one fails and blame Valencia for not letting working parents pass like my classmates did. "HOW DO THEY EXPECT SINGLE PARENTS TO PASS! I CANT STUDY ANYMORE! I DONT HAVE ANYMORE TIME!" Well I'm sorry you can't study more than 15 hours a week before a test.

You literally didn't understand the meaning of my post and took what I wrote as my opinion and not my experience of passing the course. Your comparing your opinion to my experience. (Nursing 1 is by design a weed out semester, with some cohorts losing 50% of their class in Nursing 1) BTW, you probably don't know there's months of practicum at the end of the program where you can't work a job full time because you would have to clone yourself because you will be working several shifts a week with your preceptor for several weeks. But hey you know it all and ignorance is bliss.

I won't be replying because I figured I'd be helpful but it's obvious you don't really know what your heading into. I regret even posting that info as now you can benefit from it instead of you bawling your eyes out after class like my classmates did wondering how anyone expects them to succeed. And in regards to helping your classmates, I actually did but just not them as I didn't know them too well. Maybe you like being in other people's business and knowing how exactly all 30 classmates in your section are doing but not me.

First of all, I’m not in Seminole’s program- I’m in Valencia’s Evening Nursing Program. Secondly, I know what’s required of the nursing program, and thirdly it’s not about being in someone’s business- you’re going into a field that literally helps people (strangers) that are in NEED every single day, maybe you should be a little more compassionate and a little less, “I’m better than everyone else”. Sweetheart, you can experience it all, but if you don’t put it into practice what’s the point. I’ve seen a lot of GNs with your attitude and guess what- they end up being loners because, NO ONE wants to work with them. Not that it’s any of your business, but I bought my own home- cash- at 22, so I wouldn’t pay rent for this exact moment- I’m financially stable (no kids, happily married, and a great job)! I’m speaking for all the people you offended with your “nice post”. When I’m done with school I won’t be in debt and I won’t struggle to find an RN position because my manager knows my work ethic. Time management is EVERYTHING! YES, please don’t respond anymore. You’re full of malice and cruelty- we need positive vibes here.

Hey guys did anyone get stuck with Professor Elizabeth Coleman for Nursing 1 when registering for classes? I'm nervous because all but like 2 of her ratemyprofessor reviews are horrific. I'm concerned, I didn't get the option to choose professor Dial. If she's as bad as they say she is then I don't know if it's worth it to even take Nursing 1 this semester if I'm with her. Has anyone taken her before or knows someone that has? I'm trying to be optimistic, but I also don't want a bad professor if all those reviews are true.
