Valencia College ADN-RN Program, Spring, 2023 Admissions and Statistics

Published

Just posting this here to help applicants to Valencia College (in Central Florida) track where they stand in comparison to other applicants.

There is a total of 85 points possible, with the new civic literacy exam point added for entrance into the program (there used to be 84 points). I spoke with an advisor at the school and they said that typically they have over 500 applicants and only accept around 120. They said sometimes they see applicants with Cs and Bs and they generally do not get in.

I currently have 84/85 points after my prerequisites and the TEAS. Straight As in the prerequisites. Apparently, that puts me in a very good position (so the advisor said) and there is a good chance of being accepted at this point range. Good luck to you all. Hope we get what we apply for! We did not come all this way to give up! I’m, personally, going for the nights and weekends track (part-time) because I work full-time and take care of a disabled wife. Crossing my fingers. I just put my application in for the Spring semester on Friday!

Below is a PDF of the new program guide, including the requirements for acceptance. They accept students based on number of points. If any two of more students tie for points, they go with the student with the higher GPA (though I’m unsure if they only use program GPA or overall GPA for every course you’ve ever taken).

Congrats!  I have not received anything more than the initial email. Do you plan to go full time or part time?

I'm thinking part time and then stepping down from my full time job to part time. What about you?

I will for sure be doing part time because I have to continue working full time. I’m very apprehensive about how I’ll manage everything but I don’t really have a choice.

Yeah I figure I will still be able to get shifts near full time hours if I stay where I'm currently employed when I can and work fewer hours when I need more studying time.  I'm lucky that I'll get to do that.   Also will be relying on loans to help out as well.  But I figure it's gotta be worth it in the end!

I think semester one should be manageable in terms of working full time.  Second semester and beyond look quite a bit heavier.

Well that's good, it seems we'll at least be eased into it a little. I've heard the newer curriculum is a little hectic.

Part-time for me. I’ve also submitted the Google form. They are supposed to send us an online orientation in Canvas, and we have an in-person mandatory orientation on the 17th of November, too. Getting really nervous.  LOL. I should be excited. Anyway, I hope you hear something soon!

I’ve heard the same. I watched MD to RN’s (on Youtube) experiences with the new curriculum, and she stated how disorganized it seemed. Hopefully they’ve worked out the kinks in the system.

I’m working full-time, but providentially I just was promoted and received a raise at work. Just in time! Plus, they will be giving $1500 tuition reimbursement per year, which is not a lot, but any amount helps. I’ve been working Uber/door dash and working as an auditor for an insurance company while finishing my prereqs. So with the schedule in nursing school, the Uber/door dash job will likely need to be placed on hold. On top of this, my wife is disabled and doesn’t receive disability. If it finally goes through (we’ve been waiting 7-8 months with SSDI), I may be able to just do my regular auditing job and school. I’m hoping that will be the case. Because I can only do so much.

Can anyone give any insight to what the part time program is like? I am looking into the the Orlando campus and need to work during the week full time but can't get a concrete answer from anyone on what the school schedule/clinicals will be like while in the program.
