From the previous posts I've read the VA hiring process is pretty long and drawn out. I've applied to two different VA sites. The VA an hour away from my home I can always get in contact with a nurse recruiter and my application status for two posting says "referred to selecting official." The VA closest to my home, I can't get through to the recruiter, she emailed me back once and the status of all the apps just says "application received." I do know a nurse practitioner that works at this VA site and she tried to give my resume to the recruiter, but I had to apply online.
For those of you that are familiar with the hiring process, any idea what the next step is. In all there are around 20 RN vacancies. The two systems have two completely different online application submissions, how will I know if I've completed the application process correctly, its a little confusing
I've been applying since I've graduated and earlier this year I found out that I was applying the wrong way so those positions don't count. These positions closed in September.
Thanks in advance ?
I finished both my Vet-Pro and E-quip yesterday. I've only held three nursing jobs, but there was like a month or two in between. Making sure I had all of the dates covered was the hardest. Total I think it took me four hours. One of the HR reps told me that the references the first HR rep called would be the ones used for Vet-Pro, so, they won't have to do that part. I'm hoping the remaining stuff won't take too long. Also, HR had me resubmit my application and declaration of federal employment via fax. Once she had those she said she was gonna run a background check to make sure "I hadn't robbed any banks recently" (she was joking). I guess that was a pre-lim to the official one.
Hi everyone! Thought I'd share my experience with the VA hiring process so far. I applied for a position posting that was open July 6 - 10; I had my interview on July 19 with the floor manager and assistant manager. I was selected for the position, received my pre-employment package via email, and a phone call from HR on August 7. E-QIP, VetPro, all other paperwork (including official transcripts) and fingerprinting were completed and submitted by August 14. My physical was completed on August 21 and by August 22 all of my references had received and submitted forms both by email and snail mail. Now for the waiting game!
Update- I got the final offer with 6k below what I made after almost 8 weeks the Board returned the paperwork. I think they like to start orientation at the beginning of a pay period..that's my orientation date as well 9/23.
N2b8U--have your file gone to the Board yet, if it is not, you may not be able to start 9/23. Mine file was sent to the Board mid July and I just got it back.
Now I have to decide whether to take the offer or not.
klleo27 (I don't have enough post to pm yet, sorry),
First of all don't give up; it took me four months to get hired. It can be tedious.
Second, my resume was four pages, a combination of paragraph with detailed bullets (described every time of patient/illness/injury I have experience with as well as every piece of equipment, mentoring, charge nurse duties, etc.). They like those resumes chock full of everything. Under my education I listed every class I had for my degrees (AAS, BSN, some graduate work).
I submitted over 50 applications, was referred for 15, and interviewed for 5 positions. The other 4 positions went to in-house people who had first dibs but I landed the 5th which is a float ICU/PCU. I don't mind because I've been working full time toward my graduate degree (which I have ended up not liking and need to change directions) and I need a refresher anyway.
If you look back a few pages, then you can see the ROI I posted with nursing questions they want to know the answers to. If you can answer any of those in your resume, then that would be helpful too!
Good Luck!
