VA Hiring Process

From the previous posts I've read the VA hiring process is pretty long and drawn out. I've applied to two different VA sites. The VA an hour away from my home I can always get in contact with a nurse recruiter and my application status for two posting says "referred to selecting official." The VA closest to my home, I can't get through to the recruiter, she emailed me back once and the status of all the apps just says "application received." I do know a nurse practitioner that works at this VA site and she tried to give my resume to the recruiter, but I had to apply online.

For those of you that are familiar with the hiring process, any idea what the next step is. In all there are around 20 RN vacancies. The two systems have two completely different online application submissions, how will I know if I've completed the application process correctly, its a little confusing :(

I've been applying since I've graduated and earlier this year I found out that I was applying the wrong way so those positions don't count. These positions closed in September.

Thanks in advance ?

How long does the vetpro clears? And how long DOES IT Take for the boarding process (salary and stuff)..'

Heres my timeline

hr told me im cleared with my physical just waiting for vetpro then boarding... ahhh this is such a long process but its my dream job[/

Just wondering how the process is going for you, jprn0809? How long did the boarding process take? Have you gotten a start date yet?

ARE YOU GOING TO VA LONG BEACH TOO?

Its been one week since the VA updated my USA Jobs account with selected. Still no call and no TO. I am beginning to become inpatient. I called and left a message last week on Thursday to no avail. I am going to do everything within my power not to call again. So as not to drive the people nuts. Does anyone have experience with this sort of thing? I just really want to get my life organized and this seems ridiculous. How long did it take others to recieve their TOs after being selected?

Cita,

Any word now for you?

Still nothing. So tempted to call again. Doing everything within my power to be patient. I don't want to be annoying, but this is getting silly. If I was selected then, lets get on with it. I don't know what the hold up could be, but I'd really like to know. I will probably be weak and call again later today...Any words of advice?

Anyone have a contact number (outside the main HR number) at Haley?

Cita, tough situation you're in because I totally get where you are coming from on the whole annoying thing but sometimes you have no choice if you really want to pursue something. I will tell you that after my interview, they said they would notify after 2-3 weeks and after the second week I called and the Nurse recruiter told me they had already made selections and calls were already made. She said the reason they didn't call me to notify me that I had not gotten the job was because they make an alternate list so it wasn't completely over yet. Okay sounded fair and she said either way, I would be notified even if not selected. Okay well that never happened. I was not persistent because I was clearly not selected but you have been, so pursue it because its not going to be as important to anyone as it is going to be to you. Let us know, we always appreciate the experience of others. I'm sure you won't be the last and others will benefit from seeing how you went about it and the conclusion. Good luck to you!

So I called...again...and spoke to the nurse recruiter who said they were still finishing the credential check and then would notify me with a start date...I asked her about the background check and physical and she told me another woman in HR would be calling me with when that needed to be done. I apologized for being inpatient, and she laughed and said me and everyone else. So it is not new to her that she gets a lot of calls. She was very nice. She told me I was going to have to be patient...At least they answer the phones!

I guess what I don't understand is why they updated USA Jobs with selected if they weren't prepared to tell the selectees they were selected. Seems a bit unorganized, but my husband just says "Thats the VA, its a federal organization." I don't care either way I just want to let my current employers know whats going on so they can fill my spot. Anyway, I'll keep ya'all posted.

Hi Everyone, I have been reading everyone's experiences with getting the coveted "FINAL OFFER" from the VA Medical Center. It's nice to know I am not alone. I am not a nurse but a Health Unit Coordinator. The VA call's us Medical Support Assistant's. I got my "tentative offer" on Jan 31, 2013....I am still in the "boarding process" they say, waiting on the "BOARD" to sign off on it so they can make a final offer. I made the mistake of thinking this process was going to be QUICKER so after I had emergency surgery in Dec I decided to not go back to that job thinking the VA job was right around the corner!!! WRONG!!! so here I am, waiting like everyone else. I even emailed the HR person about concerns I had in the hiring process because of the sequester. The email I received back assured me that the sequester didn't have any effect on the VA...no hiring freeze's etc...soooo ok...I am about ready to give up! I need the job like a month ago! I sure hope the final offer comes soon...One income isn't cutting it.

I applied december 2012, my status was updated after a week, nurse recruiter called me 1st week of jan, i got on spinal cord the 2nd week of january, icu and tele the 3rd week.

Did the nurse manager interviewed you?

The nurse manager has to approve and call your reference becase the manaher would be the one to forword your job request to hr. Im not sure with the va hospital you applied.

I got interviewed in san francisco and long beach but ended up taking long beach
