Im new to nursing and I am trying to understand the principals associated with UWSD.
The unit I work in, uses the atrium system. I understand the basic principal of the under water seal but I need some clarification regarding the suction section. If the suction chamber is filled with 20cm of H20, why do I need to add wall suction, and when the wall suction on 10cm of H20 ( approx 1kpa) is that suction pressure off the wall regulator then added to the amount of suction in the water seal to give a total or is the amount in the chamber the maximum negative pressure that the patient receives.
The second issue I need clarifying is, if the unit is to run on gravity only, I assume I dont even feel the suction chamber with water at all. Is this correct. I hope someone can help me as I am very confused.
