Published

Just wondering if there is anyone out there that has been accepted to the October 2007 program for UW Oshkosh? I got my admission notice a few days ago, and just trying to find out who else is out there!!

What kind of program is it?

Brenda

It's a BSN program for students who already have a bachelor's degree in another field. It's 12 months and very fast paced, and intense.

Funny thing, I am currently in the UW-Oshkosh program. It's interesting what you will find googling for Oshkosh things!

It is a very intense program! I'm done this October and will be very happy to be done.

You're in the program right now? Any advice for next year's student?

Take everything you thought you knew about learning and toss it away. You are literally drinking from a fire hose when you are trying to balance doing your online class and clinical class. I am currently into my 4th clinical and taking a 3 credit child and adolescent class at the same time. Oh, and we are doing both in a little over 4 weeks! It's hectic, but great. Talk about sink or swim type stuff. My second day on the unit and I already am taking a patient, which I think is great as you really need to apply what you learned in class/book work to the patient.

One down side to the program is that some of the instructors, although highly trained and most still working in the field, seem to be only 'half' there. Despite that, the program is pretty good.

They do tell you to not work during the program, and I say that depends on how your life is. If you have kids, forget it. There is no way to balance work, study and a family and still get passing grades. We have had two classmates in my cohort drop out just for that reason. I can't think of anything else at the moment. If I do, I'll post them here. Good luck!

Great advice! Thanks for the insight...it sure helps to get info from someone going through it right now. I'm actually sorta looking forward to the fast pace. I've found that I learn better when I am "under pressure" so to speak. Good luck to you as well! And if you think of any other useful tips along the way, please share!!

even though it is very intense program, can you take less classes than suggested and try to get good grades is u don't mind graduating in longer period of time than the rest? or is it required to take suggested hrs if u want to do accelerated program in nursing (if u have backelor degree in diff. field of study)?

Hey Erin, I am applying for the May Cohort. I think I have a pretty good chance of getting in but you never know. How was the interview process ect.... I am a CNA, have 4.0 GPA, Good rec letters. Was it hard to find scholarships? I have three kids not all of them are in school yet. Keep me updated if you would please.

To Citizenx: (if you are still out there)Do you like the program? Is it very difficult or just fast? To me physics was tough, but trig was not. Organic Chem was tough but not micro. Is it hard to get all of your clinical hours in?
