Season's Greetings!
I'm new to this site, so hello all! I have a few questions/concerns and was wondering if anyone might be able to help me out.
I am interested in pursuing nursing as a second degree, and am very interested in UVA's MSN program for second-degree students. Basically, here are my qualifications:
- I am currently a junior at a top-tier liberal arts college double-majoring in Psychology and Leadership
- I have above a 3.8 GPA and a 4.0 GPA in all pre-requisites
- I have volunteer experience in healthcare settings
- I am working on getting my research on pain expression published in the APA journal "Health Psychology"
- I have held fairly prestigious internships
My main questions are:
- for the UVA MSN program, does the bachelor's degree have to be earned BEFORE APPLYING? I am scheduled to graduate next December, but the application date is in November. Given my qualifications, it is pretty safe to say that my GPA would not change much (if anything it would increase) between November and December.
- Do I have a relatively good chance of gaining admission to the program? I am aware that there are many factors that influence admissions decisions, so I don't mean to sound as though there are certain cutoffs that automatically gain you admission. I guess I'm just testing the waters, so to speak.
Thanks so much for any information with which any nurses out there can provide me!

Have you already spoken to someone at the university? I would think that you should do that first.
Hi Mamamerlee!
Thanks! I did actually send an email to the department, but since it's the week of Christmas, I figured I might be able to expedite the answers to a couple of my questions. You are correct, though, my best information will come from the department itself (I'm just being neurotic)!
