Hi! I am currently in nursing school, graduating in December 2019. I just applied to UVA Medical Center's new graduate nurse program on August 26th for a start date of February 2020 and thought I would make a page for others who may have applied as well! I haven't heard anything yet from them but plan on going to the open house September 14th. Comment below if you applied as well and if you have heard anything!

hey! I found your post because I'm graduating in May and just applied for UVA's residency program starting in the summer! I was just wondering if you ended up interviewing/taking the job at UVA? Also congratulations on graduating!!
Hey!! I did take the job at UVA! I’m on 4West, which is a Cardiothoracic/vascular intermediate unit. I went to the New Graduate open house and really liked that unit. What units did you list as your preference?
Omg congratulations! That’s awesome!! I’m NICU or bust lol so I only listed the NICU. I didn’t even know there was an open house, I wish I would’ve known in November or I would’ve gone! When you applied, how fast was the process for you? Like how soon after did you interview/get the offer?
I interviewed with NICU as well!! They may have an open house in a couple months for your cohort. I applied in August, and got an interview in October and I accepted the job a week later.
Oh that's awesome!! How did you like their NICU? I don't really know anything about it, I'm just applying to a bunch of level 4's and was told by some other nurses who got their MSNs at UVA to apply! I looked up the open house and it said it was in November, which seems so early but that's okay. I'm just hoping I get an interview! Just out of curiosity (and if you don't mind me asking) is the pay pretty similar to other places? I'm mostly applying in D.C. (children's, georgetown, etc) so I'm not sure if it's less because Charlottesville is much farther from DC!
Their NICU is great. I was really impressed! About the pay, I’m from Raleigh NC originally so it’s slightly less than the hospitals in Raleigh but I’m not sure about the DC area! I know cost of living in DC is pretty high so I would think that hospitals in that area would pay high as well.
Oh that's good to know! I'm glad you were impressed, from everything I've seen online it looks great. And yeah I would assume it's slightly lower than DC but who knows! How was your interview in the NICU? And can I ask why you chose to go with 4west instead? Thank you so so much again for all of your help and advice, this is all so helpful!!
I have always wanted to do NICU and I could still see myself doing that down the road, I personally have more experience with cardiac from nursing school clinicals And really clicked with the managers and staff! The NICU interview was good, they asked some tough questions for sure haha. But good luck! Let me know what you end up doing ? maybe I’ll see you around UVA!!
